FEATHERS AND FINS
Nouvelles images à colorier, Hélène Guertik (1935).
Painted in the early 1930s by a Russian-born illustrator working in Paris, these plates were part of the legendary Père Castor series. Feathers & Fins gathers three of Hélène Guertik's quietest and luminous studies of the animal world.
Guertik worked in negative, placing her creatures as silhouettes of pure colour on coloured grounds, an unusual and quietly radical approach to children's illustration. The kind of image a child returns to, learning the shape of wings.
Held in the Cotsen Children's Library, Princeton University.
Format & Paper: Each print is produced as a museum-quality Giclée print on Hahnemühle German Etching, a warm, textured cotton paper that honours the depth and tonal richness of each work.
